I believe that the police had enough information on to charge her with the crime. If she did not do it she should have told them who did. But in the end she stated that she did not know who kill the young woman. Maybe we will never know or do all ready know that a question that we may never have the answer to. Some time a person can look guilty but there are not.
I don't see how any rational person can say she's guilty beyond the shadow of a doubt. I think the police bungled the investigation when they failed to fully appreciate the possible culpability of that cheesy little punk she was dating. I can easily see him murdering his girlfriend because he didn't want to be tied down with a kid and planting the evidence in Carla's home.
With any luck, the little bastard will catch some new incurable strain of venereal disease that results in a long, slow and painful death.
No, I don't think she did it. I think if she could have helped herself by telling on someone else she would have done it. I don't think she knew anything that could have put the boyfriend in jail. I think he set her up for the fall because she was easy and put herself in that position. He felt it would be easy to do and put it on her. I didn't believe anything he said on the stand about her and the fake tears.
This woman needs to be set free. I am going to demand justice. You better believe that I'm going to find out what needs to happen in order for this conviction to be overturned. You are not human if you can watch what we all just watched and say this woman is anything but innocent! JUSTICE!!! Believe me, this is not over, not by a long shot. Thank you DATELINE! You always reveal the most unjust stories and I am so glad to know that you are America's watchdog for the innocent. It was a wonderful team of determined people that I worked with to help get David Goldman his son back! I guess we are now moving from Bring Sean Home to Release Carla Hughes.
Carla the Good Lord went to great lengths to put you in that hell. I know I've been there. You will be released believe it. I learned some deep spiritual lessons and you can too. Sadly most don't, which accounts for our recidivism rate. That is another discussion but no accident and is killing the spirit of our country. Prison is big business. Carla dear I avoided all drama. Worked at the library. Read. Prayed. You especially have the burden of the injustice get past that I didn't have to forgive. You will see as you comport yourself as the woman that know you are you will feel better. You will begin helping your fellow convicts. Many can't read the letters from home and will ask you to. You will fill out forms for sneakers. You will share your knowledge. Do not let your kindness be taken as weakness. I did not lend or borrow. I never testified at a ticket hearing. 3 years I didn't get one. Stay away from the CO's. Other people's opinions are none of your business. God Bless you child. There is life after the American Prison Experience and you will live to be exonerated. Read Job. You have a big destiny. Look for it there. There you learn that they can take everything from you but your love, your thoughts and your spirit and your God. This too shall pass. Oh and have a laugh k?
After watching the case of Avis banks to me the woman serving sentence might not be the killer.Although she should have the idea of who killed avis banks as it is not a mystery of sought since it circles only three people; the victim ,the fiance and carla hughes.i believe the detectives are partially blamed after letting keeyon go before fully investigating him.Otherwise they could have found physical evidence on him other than the gun powder on his hands.
YES she's guilty, that gun sealed the deal..and all the posts that I'm reading saying otherwise completly dismissed that key element. she borrowed the loaded weapon that killed the young mother to be and returned it emptied...Carla never explained this part nor did her attorney..which was a calculating decision I'm sure to protect Carla...and the frame part is ridculous to believe...someone broke into her apartment which wasn reported/stole the gun/used the gun/returned the gun/carla didn question why it was empty/returns it after per her borrowed it to feel safe/within a weeks time she feels safe again...if she ws frame it shouldn be hard for her to know who did it..yet she plays clueless... thats nothing but guilt
Im so sad to see this happened i was in tears watching this im deeply hurt and i cant imagin how your faily feels i truely in my heart dont believe you did it that men is guilty and how dumb are they not to see that hes a horrible liar and all the evidence was on him they didnt have anything on you besides you was his mistress to me honestly thats bullshyt that has to be the worst state ever to believe and make you pay time for something you clearly didnt do especially when all the evidence is on him im lost for words im so shocked i just watch your story only 4mins ago i ra to my computer god bless you your family and child and the other family also itsnothing like loosing a child or a love one but like one of the fathers said we both lost and they did IM SHOCKED HE DIDNTGET ANYTIME IS THESEPOPLE SERIOUS
thats why i study criminal justice they need some one smart in the buisness
Yes, I do believe that Carla is guilty of something there is too much evidence. I have a special gift to read ppl. The things that I'm stand out for me with the overwelming evidence are Carla was adopted which means there are some generation spirits in her life. I am interested in knowing more of her biological parents history. Even if she never knew them there are ungodly soulties that exist in her bloodline. Carla had a charmed life but there is trauma that occured when she was separated from her birth mother. I can remember when I was an infant my mother has verified these memories I always felt comfort and trust in her voice. I remembered her voice from being in the womb. Another thing that I 'm concerned about with Carla is that she loved to enter competitions as a child. Carla was use to winning. And at home Carla was always the center of attention. What if Avis and her baby were too much competition. The fact that Kenyon did have a home with Avis and was planning to marry her makes me wonder how Carla really felt. Why did she conceal the true nature of her relationship with Kenyon at the first interview? What a wild concidence how did she get a gun then 3 days later these weapon was used for murder? I could see if she said the gun went missing and she did'nt know who had it but was afraid to tell after she heard of the murder but no. The cousin could be a suspect too. The fact that the crime was so violent leads me to believe that there is a 3rd person. Women usually don't commit such violent crimes. Carla is a mother so she does have something to lose in this. If Carla is guilty Kenyon is also guilty the reason she won't tell on him is because it will confirm she is guilty. If Kenyon had done this alone she would've told along time ago to save her own butt. There is a 10% chance she was framed but then why did she lie about the gun? When she lied about the gun that indicated to me that she knew there was a possibility that the gun was used in the murder of Avis. There is a slight possibility Carla did not know who he would kill but she gave Kenyon the gun. The reason she won't tell is because she is so use to coming out of bad situations on top her whole charmed life has been just that. A reflection of a bad situation turned into good with her coming out winning. Carla feels that if she tells nothing she will go free without breaking daddy's heart. I got 3 guns in my house if I don't no nothing if an officer asks me do I have a gun I would say yes. I believe she should give up own the appeal and tell the truth so that Kenyon could serve his time. It's so unfair that the little loser is still out lying and cheating. I believe he is guilty because why did he get mad when the police suspected him. He knows by now that the closest ppl are always the first suspects. If he cared why did'nt he want to help the police and clear his name. He is so lucky he was able to whip it on Carla so well she is still silent. But Kenyons day will come I don't know when though but God will make sure of that. Who was disperate enough to marry this creep? Then he just goes and gets married to some one else after his women and baby was brutily murder that crime was horrible. Kenyon has the heart of SATAN himself. I will pray that Carla comes to her senses and Kenyon never gets an ounce of sleep until he tells or meets his devil in hell. KENYON U ARE HITLER'S TWIN AND I HOPE THEY CATCH U IN YOUR LIES! I don't live far from Michigan if I ever run into u I will be sure to SMACK the DEVIL OUT U!
I think maybe her sons life got threatened by the ex-lover, and maybe that's why she's not talking. She's not saying that she's the killer, but at the same time she won't point the finger to the person that framed her in fear for her sons life.
I also do not feel that Carla committed this crime. She was not very scared when she was brought in for questioning. I think her attiude from the jump would have been different if she had done the dirty deed. I don't think she should be in jail for the rest of her life. I think that little weasel she was dating had something to do with it. And it is not justice that he gets to move on with his life and continue his hoe-hopping while Carla is missing out on her son's life. I come from a background similar to her's and I just don't feel that she was capable of doing such a violent act. I think the case serioulsy needs to be re-investigated and more light shone on the weasel. I believe the show said that there was some stabbing involved and I just don't feel that Carla, knowing the victim was pregnant could have done it. She is a mother herself and if she was jealous or not of the relationship the victim had with the weasel i don't think that is grounds to be convicted of murder. My heart goes out to both families that they were caught up with such a punk. I think there is much to be said in the fact that they investigators did not find any trace evidence of her in that house.. except for the footprints that the punk could have planted. I seriously hope her appeal is reviewed carefully. My heart goes out to both the families. But somebody needs to take a better look at that punk that started the whole mess. He should not be allowed to get away with murder.
I believe that Carla is innocent and the system failed her and her family miserably. I cannot believe the jury found her guilty. I can see where her cheating boyfriend could have framed her and now he's moved on and having a life on the outside while she is in for life. More should have been done to prove his involvement. I hope she wins her appeal. And I sincerely hope that they go after the true murderer.
I don't know who did it, but when the guy was asked by the police if he thought the neighbors saw anything, he responded with " no I don't think so, the door was closed" how did he know that the door was closed or open when the murder happened?
I don't believe Carla committed the crime, she was raised well and made a bad choice and is now paying for a crime because she was involved with someone elses fiancee. That's all the jury of nine women see. The women on the jury are saying "it could be my husband she's sleeping with". It's unfortunate because Carla is made out to be the bad one and they only see this has a jealous rage which let to the killing of Avis! I feel bad for both families because they both lost someone. Keyon did it and now he gets to go on with his life!! Who is the woman who married him? Carla deserves another trial
Nope. I think at the most she is guilty of knowing what actually happened. I think Keon showed he will do whatever to protect himself. SHe was a means to an end and his end was to be rid of his future wife!
after watching the episode there were probably too many suspects to consider than just Carla, but with the police these days knowing that you're innocent doesn't matter to police anymore. Quite frankly after the police get their eyes on anyone they won't believe what you say at that point anymore because they think that you're just trying to wriggle out of the situation. I think what happened is that the cops focused on Carla, and then they just said, lets put someone in jail to get this case over with. And with CSI's these days if you have any possible link to the person, like 1 mutual friend they'll seriously think it's you, and use every reason in the book. But again, this is based on the information I was given by Dateline and my proper judgement.
based on the amount of possible suspects I don't think that the cops had the evidence because this is what given the information by dateline and the justice system these days: they found a possible suspect, and built up a case on her and brought her to court because all jury today know that for the police to arrest you they must (ignore OJ Simpson). The police will not even let you talk after they say: its her. At that point you're finished. They won't listen to you they won't give you a chance to defend yourself, and they can do that, well because they're the police and they're stronger and can overpower you.
Hell yeah she DID IT...... Guns don't lie ( plus) she was giving a gun and a knife by her FAMILY MEMBER, who came forward and told the chilling PART.... Please People she's a Class A Sociopath, Bold face LIAR .......
I'm watching this case and have a hard time believing Michael Guest the district attorney, or the police. I was wrongfully charged of a crime where the police LIED on the stand and where Michael Guest LIED. They will say and do anything to get a conviction. They have a higher conviction rate in this county than the federal government has. I am will to talk and expose the injustices in this county. My case went to appeal where I won a 9-0 verdict and the the district attorney was criticised by the appellate panel of judges.
Carla Hughes is actually making herself guilty. She first told the investigators in the interigation room the Keylon, Avis and herself was cool and that they knew each other. When speaken with Hoda she said she did not know Avis. Also in the interagation room with her lawyer she said numerous things that indicated she knew something. I believe the phone records say it all.....I believe this is what happened. Keylon and Carla placed a plan to kill Avis. I believe the plan went a little like this; Keylon excuse for going over to Carla's to drop off the groceries was a ploy so the two of them could talk about the final draft of the plan. If Keylon really picked up groceries he only did it so that Avis did not have stop allowing Avis to go directly home so that the crime could be committed with ample time before leaving basketball practice, that is the reason why he called to see where Avis was when leaving Carla's. He wanted to know where Avis was located. After hanging up with Avis he then placed a call to Carla informing her that Avis was on her way home, giving the single to go there and complete the mission. I believe that Carla has met Avis and I believe Avis was not taken by surprise to see Carla at the home. I believe Carla got there around the same time as Avis and entered the garage as well. When Avis or Carla closed the garage that is when Carla killed Avis and went through the house and set it as a burglary. I say this be cause unfortunately there is a cousin who can testify stating the Carla borrowed that gun and returned it 2 days later. Why would Carla return the gun to her cousin if she borrowed it for protection? Did she not need protection anymore? She went home and cleaned up. When Keylon left basketball practice and drove to Carla's it was not to pick up groceries. It was to verify that the murder was complete without talking about it on the phone. Keylon then headed to the house where he supposedly stumbled upon the body of Avis.
Unfortunately Carla has lied so much, to be honest I wouldn't know what to believe, the worst officers in the country can determine that she has lied about many things. There is no doubt in my mind that she wouldn't do anything for Keylon and she did just that. She committed murder. She cried hysterically when approached by the officr at the school because her mind was telling her Keylon ratted her out, but when she realized it was a friendly visit and he just wanted to talk and ask questions she became comfortable by laughing, smiling and answering her phone in the interrigation room. In her interrigation she stated Avis, Keylon and she knew each other but it appeared to me that she was not as heart broken about the death of Avis.
Unfortunately she has lied for Keylon in the past and she continues to lie for him to this day. Unfortunately she has to live with that. And I also believe if she tries to come clean and testify that Keylon was an accessory to the murder they both she get life in jail. They should be ashamed of themselves.
************I really think that is what took place.
i m watchin now i feel SO BAD for the black woman IN FOR LIFE OMG
i feel the man from michigan did this i really do,who else will want her DEAD.
but yet look at homeboy "walkin/drivin in a nice ass white car"but yet he is FREE i do not get it sad beyond sad REST UP MA. rest in peac as your child.peeps are FALSELY accused n @!$%# by CPS agency to criminal case like this but i m thinkin the guy did it yet he is FREE i do not get it i m glad i do not hav to "cheat"to PROVE what a man i am.scumbag.
I went to school with Carla for 6yrs. She didnt commit that awful crime. She couldnt have plotted that murder like that. I do think she knows what happen. Why would she cover up for him I'm lost for words myself! I just hope one day she decides to tell. I hurts to just hear her say she wish she knew what happened.
i dont think she knows what happened. I think he framed her. He was planning this for a long time. Not to be with Carla but to be by himself. Because he is that selfish.
Nicholejeff, I completely agree! I wonder why no one ever looked at that woman, especially since he married her so quickly. It seems completely plausible that he - with his key - snuck into Carla's home, used her shoes that he knew fit him, & used the gun that he knew she had. I even wonder if he didn't stage those break-ins at her house to make her scared enough to get a gun. I find it curious that the only shoe-print left at the scene was at the back door AFTER the house had been ransacked. If she had killed Avis & walked through her blood, why aren't there prints in the house? It seems like that print is staged. I don't believe for one second that Carla committed this crime, & it makes complete sense that she's not forthcoming with information because she has none. Like she said, if she had any information, don't you think she'd have come forward for her son's sake? This breaks my heart, & I hope she's exonerated.
First off there is no proof to show that the shoes fit Keyon, or to show that Keyon knew Carla had the gun she had acquired only 1 day before.
Why would the house be ransacked after the murder and not before in preparation for a quick escape?
Would a murderer who left no other physical evidence be careful enough to avoid stepping in blood?
Why did she return the gun one hour after lying to the police about having one?
Why does she have no alibi?
Why does Keyon have an alibi?
Why did Carla murder a pregnant woman?
I can state with 100% certainty that Carla Hughes will NEVER be released from prison. The amount of evidence needed for exoneration is mind boggling and there are cases where foreign DNA is present and those incarcerated are still not able to secure a new trial.
Personally I'm glad this BITCH is rotting away in a jail cell. She's not a good person, or a good mother, she's a killer.
Keon set her up and played her like a sex crazed basket case. To answer your questions I have the following guesses assuming Keon was behind it all.
Why would the house be ransacked after the murder and not before in preparation for a quick escape? Keon did it or he told Karla to do it. After all the Garage door was closed so no one saw anything and he could wait to call Police.
Would a murderer who left no other physical evidence be careful enough to avoid stepping in blood? They would only have to step in Blood if they shot her from the garage door area and then went thru the house. If they were already in the house then no blood, except for a few drop. Then again...the stabbings, huh? Ok I have nothing on this one
Why did she return the gun one hour after lying to the police about having one? Covering for Keon's ace.
Why does she have no alibi? Her alibi is she didnt do it and she was at home.
Why does Keyon have an alibi? He planned the whole thing!
Why did Carla murder a pregnant woman? Keon told her to do it and that he would marry her. Crazy folks do Crazy stuff!
First she got the gun for protection, if she suspected keyon and since everyone else seem to she may have suspected this also and since he came to her house before and after the practice he may have taken and returned the gun at those times, and since the police had questioned her about the gun she got scared and lied and returned it for the same reason she was scared that he had taken and used the gun.
second there is proof the shoes fit keyon he had borrowed the previously with her knowledge.
the evidence of shoe print could have been done purposely to give evidence that she was there without making it obvious again the use of her shoes may have been done on purpose
her alibi was she was running earnings maybe there are pictures of her on somes camera and we don't know about it
keyon may have an alibi but he also had another woman on the side he also left early from practice the police couldn't determine that was enough time to kill her but he arrived at carla at 6:15 10 min after the time frame of when avis was killed.
if carla was going to kill this woman for this man why when she was oftered a deal to testify against him didn't she take it any woman with a child who cares for that child and from all indications she loves her child, why didn't she tell the police about keyon and get less time in jail, or even lie as she did about the relationahip, i thinks its cause she doesn't know anything to tell the only thing she can tell is what she suspects that she was framed that is why she took the chance of going to trial and i think the justice system failed her and avis when they didn't not convict the killer.
This is the weirdest case I have ever seen. If she is not guilty, why would she not say something? Why would she sacrifice her life for a pricka%% like Keyon Pittman? And who was crazy enough to marry a person which such a "suspect" history with women???? OMG! Was this a Lifetime Movie I was watching? They both are guilty and they both have a spot in HE&& waiting on them! What a waste of human life!
They didn't find gun residue on Carla because they didn't interview her right away. They interviewed her on the day of the funeral so I'm sure she had showered by then.
Personally I think that she did it. Why would her cousin lie? What would this young man have to gain from lieing on her? She committed a crime and got what she deserve. I can tell that she was not being honest about the boyfriend. I still believe that he had something to do with it. I don't know what, but I feel as if he did. He had too many people that saw him hitting on another lady at basketball practice. So no doubt he didn't shoot her but he knew that she was going to be dead when he arrived home. He should have kept his penis in his pants...ugh that's a man for you!
I agree!!! Why would she lie about the gun??? And come to find out. When she returned the gun back to her cousin all the bullets were gone. This is a sad situation on both parts. Because two young beautiful women lost their lives over a ugly, bald headed user.
I believe they both are guilty, especially Carla. not once did she appear to be afraid of the accusations, the only time she showed real fear was when they wanted to give her the death penalty. I believe that Carla was in love and wanted Keyon to herself and probably expressed to Keyon what she was going to do or had done, that's why he rushed home and ran in the garage leaving his car door opened. Carla snapped...it happens all the time to nice quiet and respectful human beings. Keyon will have to live with the fact that he cheated, and his cheating ways caused someones life. When he pointed at Carla in court, he did it with anger as if to say, (you did this and ruined both our lives). I do believe they both feel guilty...the dark circles under their eyes shows that they are not sleeping well. GOD bless Avis and her unborn child.
I am a teacher born and raised in Mississippi. I do not believe Carla murdered Avis. Anyone from MS will tell you the police are not well trained. They trample over evidence and send everything to Jackson. Who knows what happens to the evidence when it leaves. The police in this case wanted a close case as soon as possible. I wish someone outside the state would come in and investigate.
While I must say that all of our police don't fit into this category, I totally agree with you. Personally, I knew Carla from Greenville. She couldn't have done such a thing. I do think that Keyon got away with not only the murders of Avis and her baby, but he took an essential piece of our society away. Carla was a loving and caring person, as everyone knows. She had goals and ambitions and was doing well for herself and child. It hurts me because her son is now losing part of his life without a mother. FREE CARLA!! The system has failed once again. I have worked in corrections and it's a shame that some of the inmates we call prisoners are just as innocent as people walking around, those like Mr. Pittman. I trust in God that it will be overturned...
people never believe a person is capable of something horrible until the person does something...this case is simple...the gun seal the deal..Carla was at or near the home, borrowed a fully loaded gun and return an empty gun all around the time of the murder..so if she isn't guilty she didn do anything to help her case, she says she was frame, whoever returned the gun to her empty is the killer and the one that framed her, who would hve access to the gun , the murder weapon, in her possession and had some connection to the victim..her lover, but yet even after her conviction during her interview she still could not bring herself to implement the cheating lover, the same cheater who had no problem disparaging her on the stand..thats a women obession with a man, which can drive people to do the unthinkable...so the police didn't have to do much work on this case..they just didn get the pair bc that Keayon should be locked up too....and why didn she qstion the fact that borrowed loaded gun was empty right after your cheating lover fiance ends up dead by the same caliber gun...and shes very educated right..come on..i hope she rot in jail
I totally agree! Carla wanted Keyon and she did whatever it took to get him. See don't get it twisted Keyon was comfortable! He knew Avis wasn't the kind of women to check up on him so Keyon did his thing. The cousin Patrick sealed the deal why would he lie. I feel sorry for both of the families not Carla! I feel sick about Carla's Father! He is one step away from a stroke! I prayed for both families. Carla should be ashamed of herself! She has a 2yr. old. She's a mother!! Her upbringing further lets me know she's guilty she had everything she wanted but Keyon! She thought she was too smart to be charged with murder. May God have mercy on her!
Selena if you either listened or read it correctly, you should have known that they said that she lived close to that area. I know that when I am doing my running around I can go from my home to a town that is 20 minutes away. I don't just go down the street. I still think he set her up and I hope she gets another day in court to prove that she is innocent.
No way would I ever believe that Carla is GUILTY. Mr. Pittman, however, had the motive and plotted the perfect murder. Now both of the ladies involved with this moron has lost the life that they once had and two families are victims. I give my deepest sympathy to them both as well as their loved ones. He deserves to be in prison, not Carla.
I must agree with the jury. However, I do not believe the story is over. I absolutely 'HAIL' the parents of both women. It was said that it was a "touch of grace"...which it certainly was. God Bless both families as they continue to live through this striking tragedy. It is my hope that Carla can circle around and find the real Carla, that her dad and mom knew, and that Carla can positively impact the lives of all around her...especially her precious son.
Additionally, my biggest questions are: Why didn't the police act upon the fact that there was gun powder residue, and the single drop of blood. Of course he held her, and there was a statement that he "could have" gotten the residue by embracing her. Yes...true, but could it also have been transferred by shooting the gun? I just don't understand why he was not questioned about the residue.
How can you agree with a jury in one paragraph, but discuss your obvious reasonable doubt in the next? The only way you can say "guilty" when you are a juror, is if you do not have a single doubt in your mind that the defendant was responsible for the crime. Obviously America has reasonable doubt based on these comments left on here, so she should be let go. End of story.
I agree with you White about the parents. I was so moved by the father's embracing to console each other. I disagree about the verdict. If Carla knew she would have told. Thanks for your thoughtful comment
White Mountain, as for your question about the gun residue.. Why didn't they find residue on Carla and my theory about the blood on his shirt. If you looked at it, there was only like two small spots of blood on his shirt. But, Mr. Pittman stated, that he held Avis.. Did anyone think about this. If he held her like he said he did, why were there only two little spots of blood and not blood all over his shirt???? Could it be that them spots were from him doing the shooting and that's the blood that splattered along with that gun powder???
Blue Lagoon: Having a thought that Keyon may be involved is certainly not reasonable doubt. There is no doubt from the facts of the case that Carla Hughes is the shooter. Whether Keyon was involved is irrelevant to her case.
another thing..if he held her as she died. Why in the heck does he only have a couple of drops of blood? SHouldnt he be coverered in Blood if she was shot, stabbed and neck sliced!
I did watch the story and I can't understand why the police didn't take Mr. Pittman clothing after they find gun resodue on his hand. Also, why didn't they make him try on her shoes if they say he can wear her shoes. I don't believe that she was involved because there is no way in the world she will sit behind bars away from her family knowing that this man has started a new life. Trust me she will tell because not having her freedom is no joke. But trust me if he was involved he will crack and trust me he will suffer the consequences. My prayers goes out to both families even though one may always see one physically but not the way the would like so both families loses.
I was just watching dateline a while ago and these memories have revisited my mind. No, I don't think Carla had anything to do with the death of Avis Banks. I believe Keyon Pittman had a lot to do with it. If not, a third party (perhaps someone else who may have had something against Keyon or Avis) could have done it and just framed Carla for it. God knows who it was and this person will be caught sooner or later! To God be the glory!
right because the person that framed her broke into her apartment, even though no break in of her place was reported, stole the gun..emptied it, and then snucked back into her aprtment to put the empty gun back, then very shortly after the murder carla decides to return it to her cousin but oh never question why the once fully loaded gun is now empty after her cheatin lover fiance is killed by the same gun...Oh and lets not forget why she said she borrowed the once fully loaded gun..the reason she said was she didn feel safe..so during the one week she had the gun..what changed in her life that she now felt safe enough to now return the gun to her cousin. she didn say she bought herself a gun..NO she never explained why she gave the gun back..you know y she didn explain it..bc she never borrowed it bc she felt unsafe/she borrowed it to kill tht young women
I have been the victim of a crime (burglary). I felt extremely unsafe for months afterward. To this day I take "extreme" measures to protect my home and my self.
So, if I borrowed a gun from my cousin for safety ... and soon after that, a woman was shot to death a few miles from my home ... you had better BELIEVE I would not be giving that gun back!
If anything I would be doing even more to protect myself.
I think there is some doubt. They should have investigated that boyfriend/fiance more. I would have liked to here from some of the people that was on the jury as to what really convinced them that she was guilty.
Wow, me and my husband were watching this show. We are so stunned that she got convicted for a crime that (we think) she did not commit. I have never responded to anything on dateline and watch in every week. I believe that he killed Avis and framed her. This is so wrong. I pray for her family that they will stand by her and try to appeal this decision. I am so stunned on how so many woman on a jury can come back with a guilty verdict. Keeon or whatever his name is will get it one day. He has to answer to God or the devil on judgement day. Bob1234 above me is stating he know about of the same nature. Wow, I am married and love my husband dearly, but I will never put myself in the position to kill another human being any situation. Wow, is all we can say. Wow
I watch Dateline every Friday. This show really touched me. I have my doubts in Carla and Keyon, but I would hate to think Carla had anything to do with Avis's murder. No man or anyone, for this matter is worth being away from your kid. It brought tears to my eyes. I would rather hope Carla did it, than to know she's serving a life sentence, without parole and didn't do it. So heartbreaking and unfortunate. If Keyon did this, he'll definitely pay. When they showed him in court, at the end; he looks to have aged alot over 3 or 4 years. I feel no empathy for him. Guilt will make him break, one day.
How can all you people honestly believe she is innocent? Watch the show again or something.
You are VERY DUMB if you think Carla Hughes was not the shooter in this murder. Keyon was at the school and has multiple alibi witnesses. Carla has the murder weapon, motive, the shoes etc.
If you think she's innocent all I can do is pray you're never on a jury.
I feel Carla commited this crime. Where was her explanation for being in the vicinity during the crime?
Why did Carla need a gun days before the murder? And why would her cousin lie and say she gave the gun back crying if that wasn't the case? Her cousin had no reason to lie.
I think they are both guilty. Why did he call her before he called 911 and why did he call her parents to come to the house before he even found the body, because she told him what she did that's why. She was wrong for messing with a soon to be basically married man who had a fiance that was pregnant. It doesn't matter her upbringing what matters are the facts. She got in bed with a married man (basically) and she borrowed a gun from her cousin and then returned it crying. No matter how bad the police department is those things are facts and so are the cell phone tower hits.
I am usually very good with 'solving' cases and knowing who did it. I just really do not feel Carla did this crime. I was VERY upset in the fact that she was sleeping with a man with a fiancee but I don't think she did it. There is NO way a woman would risk being away from her child behind a man. She would have come forward when she found out Keyon was married to someone else. I think he did it and set her up. He will eventually get his but his wife is crazy for even marrying a man like this. I think he has short man syndrome!!
I understand and agree with many of you about this situation and Carla's innocence. The cell phone records didn't seem to prove anything. Why wasn't DNA tested on the shoes? did they test her for GPR or blood splatters? My heart goes out to both families. The hurting part of this is seeing the fathers of both young ladies cry. I didn't catch the beginning segment of the report as to how things inspired. I did see the last 45 minutes or hr, which ever. Carla has a good head on her shoulder. I don't want to believe she did the shooting so, question ?, did she appear upset in any type way? I mean her entire expression is calm from what I seen. To me the normal person whose facing life in prison for murder would be acting a complete fool if they are innocent of such crime. There's now way in .......I wouldn't take that kind of rap for anyone. I'm from Tennessee and often vist the Mississippi area for various entertainment. The people there appear warm and friendly and the cops, yes some of them appear hard to trust and do sloppy work but that's everywhere.
Yes, it's amazing what love will make you do! Some parents get their children everything they want growing up and when they become adults and can not have what they see their close friends have such as nice houses, nice cars, and HUSBANDS, it can be enough to make that person SNAP! If Ms. Hughes is innocent why did phone towers show she was in the area at the time of the murder? Why did she borrow a gun from her cousin that matched the same type of gun that killed Ms. Banks? Why did her shoes have blood on them? Note it's sad that she is not with her son, but from my understanding she has never raised him, therefore her son is not a way to win sympathy because of a crime she committed or knows who committed. GUILTY.........
I watched this special about this case. Iam not sure what exactly Carla is guilty of but I think she has some involvment in the death of this young woman. Then at the same time now that she has 2 life sentences would she really still attempt to protect this "man?" I do think that he has some involvement in the murder !!!!! I think he is GUILTY !!!
OMG ! The cops SCRewed up, why didnt they check out that man more then they did ? That girl was framed and that fellow is a real PIG !! I hope Carla is freed soon !!
Carla Hughes is guilty as sin!!!! Karma is a bit*h and when you do wrong by others. You have to suffer the consequences. I do feel sorry for the young lady because she had so much promise. But after I hear how Avis died I quickly lose any compassion I had for Carla.
I believe her. I think he set it all up, but framed her because he was ready to be done with both of them. The police botched this investigation. That is our problem now, they focus on somebody and fail to do a complete job. sad, really. This woman could be home with her child if she had been willing to "rat" on the guy. But she chose not to lie, so she is left paying the price. so sad.
I agree, the more and more I think about it I do think he framed her. The Keyon guy !!! I dont understand why Carla would continue to say she doesnt know if she does, especially now that she has the life sentence. The gun , the shoes .... why would she save them ? She would have had to know that she would be a suspect. I just hope that the truth comes out and WHOEVER knows something speaks out (including Carla). I pray that justice is served. Often times the police focus on one thing and one person and get so caught up in that person they let all others slide. I pray this isnt the case.
i have a question; where is the lie detector test? who passed or failed that test? or was it necessary not to take a lie detector test? i am quite bothered there was no mention of a lie detector test.
There is no evidence to show there was any type of setup. There is no evidence to show Keyon ever left basketball practice. There is a MOUNTAIN of physical and circumstantial evidence pointing the finger at Carla Hughes. And guess what shes rotting in prison where she deserves.
She shot a woman, stabbed her, and slit her throat. What a piece of trash.
Sure Keyon was most likely involved but he didn't pull the trigger.
i think that he did it. Why was there gun powder on his hand??? she would have had gun powder on her hands. Where was the knife that she was stabbed with??? if trained dogs couldn't detect her scent at the murder scene, then there is nothing linking her to being at the crime scene. If the cell phone tower reaches a 2 mile radius and both homes are in that radius, then no duh it is going to pick up her cell phone!!!! i think that HE should be serving a life scentence!!!!!!
Right where is the gun powder on her hands??? And this leads me to believe that they both hand part in it. I say this because 1st off Avis didn't show sign that she tried to run or even get away there for this tells me that the person standing that garage or even in the doorway was someone that she knew and was comfortable with.. So to me this is the person that did the shooting and then my other theory is as far as the knife goes. Yes I believe that Carla sis the stabbing in this case because she was jealous that she was not pregnant like she wanted to be with Keyon's baby. So this is why the knife was not found because that was what she used and she got rid of what had her prints on it. But, instead of getting rid of the gun they took it back to Carla's. I really wish some more trained cops that are used to investigating murders would take this case to figure some of this stuff out.
When they would have put the handcuffs on me everything I knew would have came out that day. I cannot understand why she she protecting this man? He is not attractive at least I don't think so, so what he is a school teacher please...
She is not telling because she knows the truth will not set her free. The truth is she really is guilty of killing the young woman. She is so used to winning and having things her way she decided to not say anthing and hope that everything worked out in her favor. Not this time Miss Carla--you do the crime, you gotta do the time.
I just finish watching this case and I have doubt, the police did not build enough to pin down Avis' ex-fiance nor Carla. I believe that Carla knows more and probably was involved in some way however I don't believe she was the one that killed Avis. I believe it was Avis' ex-fiance. He has more of a motive than Carla.
Queendivak, I agree with you. Keyon sure did get married quick. Maybe he was messing with someone else on the side and she did it and set Carla up and she married Keyon!!!
Do you think Carla Hughes is guilty? Share your thoughts below.
Yes he is guilty.
Who is Sean and where can I get his story?
My gut tells me he did it and framed her ...
he had the gun powder on his hands ...
have him try on those shoes...
why wasn't her scent or fingerprints found at the home?
why did the jury convict her???
SHe was a means to an end and his end was to be rid of his future wife!
no, from the information given I think she was framed by the boy friend but again this is based on the information in the dateline article,.
after watching the episode there were probably too many suspects to consider than just Carla, but with the police these days knowing that you're innocent doesn't matter to police anymore.
They come in all shapes and sizes and COLORS....
In my opinion, Carla Hughes is undoubtedly guilty!
My case went to appeal where I won a 9-0 verdict and the the district attorney was criticised by the appellate panel of judges.
i have an odd feeling she may not have done this but been framed by the boyfriend.
me and my husband think the same thing
KJ
I totally agree!

so sad rip.
intelligent thoughts
no! no evidence. How can our so called justice system get away with this? Carla Hughes could not have committed this heinous crime.
I think he may have planned this to be with the woman he married!!
Crazy folks do Crazy stuff!
my 2 cents!
First she got the gun for protection, if she suspected keyon and since everyone else seem to she may have suspected this also and since he came to her house before and after the practice he may have taken and returned the gun at those times, and since the police had questioned her about the gun she got scared and lied and returned it for the same reason she was scared that he had taken and used the gun.
second there is proof the shoes fit keyon he had borrowed the previously with her knowledge.
the evidence of shoe print could have been done purposely to give evidence that she was there without making it obvious again the use of her shoes may have been done on purpose
her alibi was she was running earnings maybe there are pictures of her on somes camera and we don't know about it
keyon may have an alibi but he also had another woman on the side he also left early from practice the police couldn't determine that was enough time to kill her but he arrived at carla at 6:15 10 min after the time frame of when avis was killed.
if carla was going to kill this woman for this man why when she was oftered a deal to testify against him didn't she take it any woman with a child who cares for that child and from all indications she loves her child, why didn't she tell the police about keyon and get less time in jail, or even lie as she did about the relationahip, i thinks its cause she doesn't know anything to tell the only thing she can tell is what she suspects that she was framed that is why she took the chance of going to trial and i think the justice system failed her and avis when they didn't not convict the killer.
what can we do for her? i'm in>>>i can't take it...she can't be framed for something she didnt' do!!!! i believe she did NOT do it
This is the weirdest case I have ever seen.
I agree, she is innocent
They never said but where did Carla attend college?
She attended the University of Southern MS in Hattiesburg, MS.
She was also in school attaining a graduate degree at the time of the murder.
people never believe a person is capable of something horrible until the person does something...this case is simple...the gun seal the deal..Carla was at or near the home, borrowed a fully loaded gun and return an empty gun all around the time of the murder..so if she isn't guilty she didn do anything to help her case, she says she was frame, whoever returned the gun to her empty is the killer and the one that framed her, who would hve access to the gun , the murder weapon, in her possession and had some connection to the victim..her lover, but yet even after her conviction during her interview she still could not bring herself to implement the cheating lover, the same cheater who had no problem disparaging her on the stand..thats a women obession with a man, which can drive people to do the unthinkable...so the police didn't have to do much work on this case..they just didn get the pair bc that Keayon should be locked up too....and why didn she qstion the fact that borrowed loaded gun was empty right after your cheating lover fiance ends up dead by the same caliber gun...and shes very educated right..come on..i hope she rot in jail
KEYS TO THE HOUSE?
I was surprised that the attempt to make it look like a "break in" - was not discussed further.
Did the woman accused have access to the house?
Would she have had to have keys to get in the house and ransack it to feign a break-in?
Wow
I really think Keyon did it but at this point, I don't see any way she can get out unless he confesses and I don't think he will!!
I'm speechless too....WOW, where is justice?
I think he has short man syndrome!!
me too. OMG! can you believe this mess!
He didn't care about his Fiance or Carla. With all that mess going on he still found time to Marry someone else......Just Shameful!!!
She never raised her son? I missed that part of the show. When did they say that or is that personal knowledge?
No offense to anyone but every person that thinks she is innocent is a woman. Most likely a woman who has been cheated on in the past.
Switch the entire situation around in your head right now.
Picture Keyon as the secret lover.
Carla the soon to be married woman.
Switch the evidence to match, and I think all of you would be convicting Keyon of murder.
77CC1-- Just want to let you know that I am a woman and I think she is very guilty. The gun seals the deal.
I agree!!!!
Lie detectors are highly unreliable.
All the evidence points to Carla Hughes.
Carla's home was not in the radius of the cell phone tower.
She knows something. How can you sit in jail, with a special needs child being raised by her great-grandmother, and not tell!!!!!
I'd be singing like a damn bird. She may be the accessory. Did they split the insurance money from Avis' death?
When they would have put the handcuffs on me everything I knew would have came out that day. I cannot understand why she she protecting this man? He is not attractive at least I don't think so, so what he is a school teacher please...
She is not telling because she knows the truth will not set her free. The truth is she really is guilty of killing the young woman. She is so used to winning and having things her way she decided to not say anthing and hope that everything worked out in her favor. Not this time Miss Carla--you do the crime, you gotta do the time.
Amen, Lilldyj
I just finish watching this case and I have doubt, the police did not build enough to pin down Avis' ex-fiance nor Carla. I believe that Carla knows more and probably was involved in some way however I don't believe she was the one that killed Avis. I believe it was Avis' ex-fiance. He has more of a motive than Carla.
Queendivak, I agree with you. Keyon sure did get married quick. Maybe he was messing with someone else on the side and she did it and set Carla up and she married Keyon!!!
I agree with you too something is just no right with this case Carla should get a new trial
